A closer look: education & career development workshops

As members of the Careers Enterprise Adviser Network and Construction Youth Trust, we hold several workshops every month.

We’re committed to supporting as many local schools and companies as possible in developing educational and career opportunities for their students and employees.

Presentation Skills

In early March, Leon Peters, who is on his degree placement with us (working as a Landscaping Operative and Marketing Assistant), hosted a Presentation Skills workshop at the Oasis Academy South Bank in partnership with the Construction Youth Trust.

Utilising marketing communications skills from his degree, Leon helps young students improve their public speaking and in turn, develop their presentation skills.

And that’s not all!

He also supports students by holding workshops that cover:

  • How to make a sales pitch
  • Self-promotion
  • Gaining confidence
  • Personal branding

CV & Careers 

Our HR Manager, Paula Sanders, runs regular future-focused workshops including: 

  • CV and personal statement writing
  • Skills identification
  • Proofreading
  • Careers pathways

These are all skills that help support career and education ambitions.

Paula recently ran a “reality check” session for Year 8s at Eastbourne Academy which gave students the opportunity to ask questions about the reality of jobs and find out how school rules prepare young people for work.

Examples included the importance of:

  • Punctuality and attendance
  • Wearing uniform correctly (linking it to PPE)
  • First jobs and how they help build communication and people skills

Apprenticeships

Another career path we support at Chaffin Works is apprenticeships.

We’re always on the lookout for hard-working individuals to join our team. As well as offering brilliant opportunities for those looking to get a foot in the industry, we are grateful to work alongside talented apprentices who become valued members of our team.
