Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we are seeking an experienced Works Manager to join our team in Fareham. This role requires extensive experience in arboriculture, de-vegetation and landscaping, strong leadership capability, and a clear understanding of compliance, safety and programme delivery across live sites.

You will play a key role in planning, coordinating and overseeing works, supporting frontline teams, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Visits (Scoping)

  • Conduct regular site visits to assess project requirements, perform risk assessments, and provide accurate scoping reports

  • Liaise with stakeholders to gather information, ensure alignment with project goals, and evaluate site conditions

Rota Management

  • Develop and maintain efficient work rotas to ensure optimal staffing levels and smooth operations across sites

  • Ensure coverage for all shifts, manage holiday and sickness, and respond to operational changes

Frontline HR

  • Act as first point of contact for frontline staff, providing support and facilitating communication

  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning

  • Ensure return-to-work and annual leave processes are completed and submitted to HR

  • Support staff in taking leave within the leave year

Appraisals & Attendance

  • Conduct performance appraisals and support development planning

  • Manage back-to-work interviews and support attendance monitoring with HR

Contract Management

  • Oversee contract delivery to ensure obligations are met on time and within budget

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements

  • Liaise with clients and contractors to resolve issues

Equipment & Fleet

  • Support management of plant, vehicles and equipment

  • Coordinate inspections, servicing and maintenance with the Fleet Co-ordinator

  • Ensure documentation is accurate and up to date

Procurement

  • Oversee procurement of materials, tools and services

  • Raise purchase orders on Procore

  • Maintain supplier relationships and ensure cost-effective purchasing

Site Audits & Compliance

  • Conduct site audits and implement improvements

  • Work with compliance teams to maintain best practice

  • Monitor and report compliance matters

Training

  • Identify training needs and coordinate delivery with HR

  • Ensure staff competence across systems, safety and operational requirements

PPE & Stores

  • Ensure correct PPE provision and usage

  • Oversee stores, stock levels and equipment records

Timesheets

  • Review and approve timesheets in line with company processes

RAMS

  • Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements

  • Ensure safe systems of work are implemented

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in arboriculture or vegetation management

  • Strong operational leadership experience

  • Relevant industry tickets

  • SMSTS preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Strong communication and organisational skills

  • Full UK driving licence
